Studio Policy
Tuition
Tuition encompasses not only the lessons but also the expertise and planning time dedicated to your child’s musical progress. It secures your weekly time slot throughout the year and is independent of attendance. Monthly payments, due on the first lesson of each month, remain consistent regardless of the number of lessons attended and can be paid in cash, by check (made out to Holly Stone), or through Venmo. Tuition for November and December will be prorated to accommodate the holidays or any planned vacation days on my end. Please note, a $35 fee is applicable for returned checks.
Scheduling
Weekly lessons will run throughout the fall (September to December) and spring (January to May) semesters independent of school calendars. Note that lessons remain unaffected by school closures due to inclement weather. If driving conditions are unsafe, an online lesson option is available for your convenience.

Canceled and Makeup Lessons
The tuition you pay secures a dedicated weekly time slot for your child, which cannot be resold or extended, unlike appointments with other professionals. No credit will be offered for missed lessons. In the event of a lesson cancellation on my part, I am more than willing to reschedule at the earliest convenience or arrange for an online lesson.

To ensure smooth scheduling, please communicate cancellations at least 24 hours in advance via text or email. No-shows or last-minute cancellations will not be eligible for makeup lessons. A single makeup lesson per semester will be allowed. A missed makeup lesson will be considered forfeited.

Tardiness
Contact me at 267-454-3101 if you anticipate being late. If a student arrives after their scheduled lesson time, the lesson will be conducted within the remaining portion of the time slot. Additional time cannot be accommodated for tardiness, as tuition covers the entire time slot and is not based on minutes attended.
Parental Responsibilities
-
Ensure your child's flute is in optimal condition.
-
Establish a consistent practice time each day, fostering self-discipline and positive practice habits; younger children, especially those aged ten and below, may require daily reminders.
-
Celebrate and encourage progress, recognizing that small steps over time yield significant results.
-
Regularly check your child's notebook for assigned tasks or music that needs to be purchased.
-
Provide essential tools such as a music stand, metronome, lesson notebook, and necessary repertoire/method books.
-
Create a quiet practice space free from interruptions and ensure electronic devices are inaccessible during practice sessions.
-
Pay tuition on time.
-
Maintain open communication, addressing any questions or concerns about your child's progress.
Student Responsibilities
-
Arrive punctually at each lesson, well-prepared, and with all necessary materials.
-
Maintain a respectful demeanor at all times.
-
Prioritize daily, quality practice.
-
Participate in scheduled recitals and workshops.
-
Silence electronic devices during lessons.
PRACTICE
Consistent and dedicated home practice is integral to a student's progress, with lesson preparation holding the same importance as homework for other classes. During lessons, we will explore effective practice techniques and establish a clear roadmap for the student's focus areas. Engaging in extracurricular activities or sports throughout the week is not a valid excuse for neglecting flute practice. Dedication to your flute sessions remains essential for overall musical growth and proficiency. Just as sports practice isn't a reason to miss a lesson, it's also not a reason to skip practicing your flute regularly. It's important to understand that these commitments can coexist harmoniously, contributing to both your musical journey and your enjoyment of other activities.

Summer Lessons
I strongly encourage all students to continue lessons during the summer with flexible scheduling. Summer lessons are beneficial as an extended break of two to three months can lead to regression, disrupting year-round progress and necessitating additional catch-up time in the fall. The summer months provide an excellent opportunity for substantial growth on an instrument. Although I understand travel constraints, regular practice is expected, and students are encouraged to bring their instruments for practice during vacations. Additionally, students are urged to explore summer music programs and festivals.
Withdrawal
Prior to discontinuing lessons, parents and students are encouraged to consult with me to address any potential concerns or issues that can be resolved. In the event of a decision to discontinue, it is courteous to give a two-week notice, and no refunds will be given for any unused lessons.
Termination
Unfortunately, there are instances where I may need to terminate a student's enrollment due to the following reasons:
-
Delays in tuition payment
-
Consistent absenteeism
-
Uncooperative attitude
-
Non-compliance with practice instructions
-
Insufficient progress resulting from inadequate practice
Materials
Instruments and additional materials are not covered by tuition. If you are contemplating an instrument purchase, please consult with me for guidance in making the optimal choice.
Students are responsible for bringing all essential materials to their lessons, including their instrument, assigned music, and lesson notebook. Throughout the year, you may be required to purchase music, which can be ordered from fluteworld.com, flute4u.com, or flutecenter.com. Amazon may or may not have the required music available for purchase.
Recitals
Recital participation is essential and required. It gives students the opportunity to share their gift of music with family, friends, and fellow students. Music recitals enhance students' confidence, discipline, and sense of community while providing a valuable platform to showcase polished repertoire, offering a transformative and enriching musical experience. Recitals require an accompanist, for which there is a fee, and a venue rental, which may or may not require a fee. Specifics will be provided closer to the recital date.
